STICKEL, Richard William "Dick" age 86, passed away June 26, 2014 in Lancaster, California after a brief illness. He was born November 13, 1927 in Nappanee, Indiana and raised on the family farm. At the age of 17, Richard began apprenticing at a mortuary in Indiana. Richard married his wife Barbara in April 1950 in Elkhart, Indiana. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War and the couple moved west after his Army service working for mortuaries in Kansas, Arizona, and southern California. Mr. & Mrs. Stickel came to Mojave in 1960 where they purchased the local mortuary which became Stickel Mortuary (and originally an ambulance service also) in 1961. They served the East Kern county communities for over 40 years. Richard was known as a caring, compassionate, kind-hearted man and good friend, who was dedicated to funeral service and who treated everyone with care and respect as if they were family.

Richard was the charter Exalted Ruler of Montebello Elks Lodge, a member of the Masonic Lodge of Mojave, and a member of Al Malaikah Shrine. He also enjoyed flying and was a private pilot for many years. Richard is survived by his wife Barbara of Mojave, his daughter Debby Goosey (Robert) of Scotts Valley, son John Stickel (Dawn) of Palmdale, son David Stickel of Rosamond, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was a kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather with a wonderful laugh that will never be forgotten. Private interment will be held at East Kern Cemetery in Mojave. Arrangements are being handled by Halley Olsen Murphy Funerals and Cremations, Lancaster.
