Lena was survived by her daughter, grandson, granddaughter-in-law, three great-granddaughters and four siblings at the time of her passing in 1979. Lena never spent one night in a hospital her entire life but succumbed to lung cancer at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 19 days. She had worked many years in an asbestos factory long before the dangerous health effects of asbestos were known. Lena was a member of St. John Evangelical & Reformed United Church of Christ in Wyandotte, Michigan.
