GORDON, JR. John S. Born October 20, 1926, in Pasadena, Calif. passed away Jan. 29, 2006, in Lancaster, Calif. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Gordon; daughter, Susan Miller and husband, William; son, John S. Gordon III; daughter, Debra Gilbert; sister, Barbara Turner; grandchildren, Wm. Austin, Ashley and Jacqueline Miller; Erin Gordon; Bryan and Sara Fobia; Adam and Ian Gilbert; and numerous nieces and nephews. John Shelton Gordon, Jr., one of Palmdale's pioneers, came to the valley in 1948, just after completing service in the Air Force. He worked as a draftsman and general contractor with his father, J. Shelton Gordon of Ana Verde Hills. Building community in this small town was an enjoyable adventure for him. John was one of the "grand men" who contributed to the incorporation of Palmdale. He was a charter member of the Elks Lodge BPOE 2027, a school board member, sang in the choir of the United Methodist Church and served as President, Vice-President and Director of the Lions Club. In 1961, John and his partner, Hank Anthony, opened Anthony and Gordon Insurance Agency where he gave old fashioned personal service to his customers. He sold his business in 1996, but remained on the job until 2005. John lived in awe and appreciation of the beauty and wonders of this world and was a blessing to all who loved him. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at the Palmdale United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family requests any remembrances be made in donations to the American Lung Association. Email condolences to the family at [email protected] .
