Mrs. J. A. Defaut

Born Carleton Island, New York 24 July 1831, d. 15 Apr 1910 at home of daughter Mrs. H. R. Hodges. Married in Jefferson County New York to James A. Defaut, moving in 1855 to Wolf River (now Ahnapee Town, Algoma) and living there until late 1890's, moving to Sturgeon Bay. Despondent after the violent death of her oldest son [James], she moved in fall 1909 to home of her daughter, Mrs. H. R. Hodges. Also had 17 grandchildren to mourn her loss. Remains brought to Algoma for funeral services, interment in the Defaut Cemetery. Attendees included: Joshua Defaut and family of Sturgeon Bay, Joseph Fronzo and wife of Sturgeon Bay, Mrs. Lizzie Graham of Sturgeon Bay, George Fowles and family of Forestville, Mrs. Julia Katz of Green Bay, and Mr. & Mrs. Hodges of Green Bay.
