Funeral services for Mrs. Fay Elrod, age 89 of Manchester will be conducted Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Dr. Brenton Cox officiating. Committal services will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the Elrod family will be held Sunday from 12:30 PM until time of services at 2:00 PM.

Mrs. Elrod passed away Wednesday in Tullahoma. She was born March 6, 1920 in Moscow, Tennessee the daughter of the late William Sides and Minnie McCraw Sides. Mrs. Elrod received her Bachelors Degree from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee and her Masters Degree from Middle Tennessee State University along with her EDS. She attended Baptist Seminary School in Louisville, Kentucky, where she also attained a degree. She worked as a Baptist Missionary in New Jersey. Mrs. Elrod began her teaching career in the early 1960's at College Street Elementary School where she taught for many years and eventually retired. She was also a longtime member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school classes. In earlier years, she loved tending to her beautiful flower gardens and shrubs. She also enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and all forms of needlework.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, John and Bill Sides and two sisters, Mildred Yager and Mary Lee Pugh.

Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, Jim Elrod of Manchester; son and daughter-in-law, James Elrod, Jr., and wife, Margaret of Old Hickory, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Karen E. Rutland and husband, Neil of Portales, New Mexico; grandchildren, Alan Elrod and wife, Rachael, Andrew Elrod, Emily Elrod and Amanda Rutland; brother, Carl Sides of Moscow, TN and sister, Sarah Helen Thacker of Athens, Alabama and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund in Care of First Baptist Church, Manchester, TN.
