Kay Lowell Nelson, 88, of Odessa, Texas died on June 24, 2014 at Odessa Regional Hospital.

Kay was born in Pueblo, Colorado, on July 28, 1925, to Wray and Erlyce Nelson. Kay spent his childhood in northwestern Kansas, where his family worked in the wheat fields. Later on the family moved to several different states where his father, Wray H. Nelson, worked as an Underwood Typewriter distributor and salesman. Like his brother, Kay loved airplanes and built models from balsa wood and cloth as a boy. In November 1943, he joined the United States Army Air Force (USAAF) at Ft Bliss in El Paso, Texas and completed his basic training as a pilot in the Stearman Model-6 YPT-9 Trainer and the BT-13 Trainer aircraft. Army Serial Number: 38578288. At the time WWII ended, he was training in the P-51 fighter aircraft for deployment to Europe.

After his time in the USAAF, he returned to Texas and attended Sul Ross University in Alpine. There he met his wife Mary Lou Neuerburg (1928-2008). They were happily married for 57 years. In 1947, Kay joined his father and brother Noris G. Nelson in the office supply business where together they owned and operated Nelson Office Supply for 61 years in Odessa, Texas. Kay was a proud member of Confederate Air Force and the Masonic Lodge.

They had two sons Michael Wray (1960-1999 )and Larry Kay Nelson.
