Luis was a railroad worker for Southern Pacific Railroad for 23 years and worked the tracks from Mojave to Lone Pine. He retired from the railroad in 1976 and traveled the USA with his wife and daughter Naomi. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing Christian songs. He also wrote and recorded many of his own songs.
Luis was a great husband and father. He was a great warrior in his faith in God. He taught the bible in his home first and out into the communities. He was an ordained Evangelist and started churches in Mexicali, Mexico and Arvin, California. He would take food and clothing to families in need all over the borders of Mexico and California. He was admired and loved by everyone. Any child who met Luis became his adopted child.
Luis was predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Andrea G. Salas; parents Seferino and Juana Salas of Jalisco, Mexico; sister Juana Salas of El Paso, Texas and brother Ventura Salas of San Jose.
He is survived by his five daughters and four sons-in-law, Luan and Isaac Pena of Mojave, Christina and Richard Skinner of Ridgecrest, Lorraine and Jerry Harter of California City; Lisa and Gregg Coronado of Kennewick, Washington, and Naomi Salas & Sheryll Coleman of Bakersfield; 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren with another one due in March.
Services were held on January 3, 2006 by Pastor John "Rocky" Vermillion at the First Baptist Church in Mojave. Burial took place at the Mojave Cemetery.
