Martha Carter, 72, died Oct. 15, at Mercy Hospital, Burlington. She was born March 17, 1901, in Putnam County, Tenn. She had been a resident of Nauvoo for many years and was a member of the Methodist Church in Hillsdale, Ky. On Nov. 17, 1918, in Mitchellville, Tenn., she married to James W. Carter, who preceded her in death in 1967. Survivors include four sons: James M., West Burlington, Clifford H., Burnside, Reginald, Nauvoo, Guy N., Clarinda; three daughters, Mrs. Carl (Mary) Bray, West Burlington, Mrs. Gary (Shirley) Black, Nauvoo, and Mrs. Edward(Cecelia) Harry also of Nauvoo, 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchilden. Beside her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Her parents were John and Marinda Whitehead Cameron. Funeral Services were held Oct. 18 at Fiedler Funeral Home. Burial was in the Nauvoo City Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Bob McCarthy, Ken Petty, Geo. Burns, Don Kinman, Dave Van Fleet and Martin Starbuck . (source unknown)
