"Mr. Eberhard was born in Colon, Mich., on June 20, 1861, as the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Eberhard who operated a grist mill and farm there. He was the youngest of twelve children, eleven boys and one girl."
The Bible Record lists for John David and Sarah only 10 children by name, Francis Marion being the youngest, nine boys and one girl. But Francis Marion's obituary says he was one of TWELVE children, eleven boys and one girl. From this information we can speculate that the two infant stones in the front row of South Colon Cemetery, in the John David Eberhard plot, are for boys who are the sons of John David and his second wife, Sarah (Smith) Winchell Eberhard. John David and his first wife, Christenia (Wise) Eberhard, had two girls and a boy. It was John David and Sarah (Smith) Winchell Eberhard who had only one girl - Ida Lovina (Eberhard) Ware.
