Allena Baker Earnest was the sixth of the 11 children born to America Holton (Thompson) and Daniel Ayres Baker. Allena was born in Hartford City, Indiana and began her education in the Blackford County schools. In 1902 when Allena was eight years old, the Baker family (then numbering nine children) boarded a train and moved permanently to Colfax, Washington. Here two more daughters were born.

Allena continued her education in the Whitman County, Washington schools. After high school graduation, Allena entered nurses' training at St. Ignatius Hospital in Colfax. Three months before graduation, she met and married Earl Ellis Earnest on June 20, 1913. They had four children in rapid succession: Karl Earl (1914), Betty Jane (1915), Burt Holton (1917) and Elsie Earla (1918).

In 1917 they had moved to Taber, Alberta, Canada where Earl managed a wheat farm. In 1918 fearing a flu epidemic, Allena brought her young children back to Colfax. Subsequent moves for Earl's employment included Kendrick ID, Cedar Creek ID, Pullman WA and Lewiston-Clarkston Valley WA.

After her children were grown, Allena returned to her nursing career caring for seniors. In retirement years, Allena and Earl were active gardeners and won many prize ribbons for their roses and irises. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary one year before Earl's death.

Allena was a member of the Pioneer Garden Club and a charter member of the Clarkston War Mothers. She belonged to the Tri-State Memorial Hospital Guild and the Congregrational Presbyterian Federated Church at Lewiston, Idaho.

Allena was a granddaughter of Mary Elizabeth (Ford) & Capt. Joseph Moran Thompson of Wabash, Indiana, and a gr-granddaughter of Dr. James & America (Holton) Ford of Wabash, Indiana.

A beautiful double-weddingring pattern quilt made in 1932 by Allena and her mother graces the master bedroom of the Dr. James Ford Historic Home. (see photo and caption on son, Burt Holton Earnest's memorial).

Died at age 80 years, 4 months, 24 days.
