GALIER, John Francis
Longtime resident of Palmdale, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on January 15, 2006, at age 94. He was born in Italy, the sixth of seven brothers. His family immigrated to America through Ellis Island in 1913, and settled in Cleveland, Ohio. There, John graduated from high school and worked on the family farm and winery. In 1946, he married the love of his life, Sarah Tantanella, and settled in Westlake, Ohio. Soon after, he joined with three of his brothers to start a construction company building roads and bridges. In 1964, John moved his family to Palmdale where he and his brothers Tony and Peter had formed Palmdale Properties, a real estate partnership. The three brothers later owned and operated Quality Aggregate in Littlerock. After retiring in 1974, John spent much of his
free time golfing at the Antelope Valley Country Club. He and Sarah also spent many hours as volunteers with the Friends of the Palmdale Library. They also worked for over 25 years on election days as poll workers. John was a friend to all who knew him. He was a sterling role model as a husband, a father, and a grandfather. Nothing gave him greater pleasure than having the family together. His love and guidance will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sarah, a daughter, Michele Machac (Emil), son Peter Galier (Carol), and grandchildren, Gina Woolner (Michael), Christa Galier and Jonathan Galier, as well as his dear nieces and nephews, especially Michelle Garvey, Vincetta Johnson and Peter Galier. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., with Rosary at 7 p.m., both on Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at Chapel of the Valley Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Sat. Jan. 21, 2006 at Fr. Serra Parish to be given by Mr. Galier's great-nephew, Father Victor Galier with burial to follow at Good Shepherd Cemetery. Email condolences to the family at [email protected] .
