She was the youngest daughter of Rev. George Cook (1700-1765) and his first wife, Margaret Andrew Woodall (1705-1746), both born in Scotland, and who immigrated to Maryland with their four older children in 1743. Only Elizabeth and perhaps one older brother were born in Maryland, and her mother may have died giving birth to her. Neither parent has a memorial to date, their places of burial unknown or unconfirmed.

Records conflict on her middle name, some noting "Lauder", but neither that, nor "Lander" have been fully confirmed to date.

Her father officiated at her marriage to John Sedwick on 1 March 1764 in Port Republic, Calvert Co., MD. She and John would have nine total recorded offspring.

Of her siblings, only one other has a memorial to date, John Cook, memorial no. 74503293. That memorial also includes some additional family information.
