Frederick Claude "Fred" Krahe, aka "Froggy" or "Freddie" Krahe, was a New South Wales police officer and detective. Krahe joined the force in 1940, and served until retirement as Detective Sergeant in 1972. Krahe retired 'medically unfit' from the police in 1972 and became a licensed private investigator, working as a security chief for the developers during the Victoria Street redevelopment/Green Ban battle in Kings Cross. Fred is often referred to as having been one of the most feared New South Wales police officers of his day. He died at the age of 62.
Detective Ray Blisset (Queens Police Medal) worked side by side with Fred Krahe, and knew him as a great investigator of crime, and that "as a detective he had no peer."

Fred Krahe was one of the allegedly most corrupt cops in the history of Australian Law Enforcement. It has been long alleged that he was a killer, extortionist, and out and out criminal. He was born in 1919 and joined the New South Wales Police, in Sydney, in 1940. It has been claimed that Krahe was the cop who refused entry to Australia in 1955, of London gang boss Billy Hill, who wanted to retire there. Krahe was been rumoured to have murdered prostitute and madam, Shirley Brifman in 1972, a villain named Burton, campaigner Juanita Neilsen, and a cop under investigation for corruption.
Sydney gang boss Lennie McPherson was allegedly heavily involved with Krahe, though he strongly denied the allegation. The Varley- Burton gang, were car thieves who prolifically stole, rung and sold cars, making $1.5 million. Varley alleged in court that Krahe took most of the money, along with another detective, Cyril Edwards. But Varley claimed that Krahe dragged Burton away and shots rang out. This was because Burton had stolen money due to Krahe. The court found Varley guilty of manslaughter and he received a very heavy sentence, which he was extremely angry about for the rest of his days. He later committed suicide. Edwards was later found dead with a bullet to the head.
Juanita Neilsen was a campaigner who mysteriously disappeared in 1975. One claim was that Krahe and two others kidnapped her, gang raped her then killed her, though there has been no proof of this. A cop under investigation was found with a supposedly self-inflicted fatal bullet wound. Krahe was rumoured to have pulled the trigger. Prostitute Shirley Brifman was co-operating with NSW & Queensland Police, saying that she paid protection money to Krahe, that he was extorting from other brothels, abortionists, and that she relied on Krahe to protect her from "Standover Men". These are extortionists who rob other criminals of their ill-gotten gains. In this country, they were long called "Thieves Ponces". Shirley was found dead, supposedly from a barbiturate overdose, but Krahe allegedly forced the pills down her throat. Krahe died in 1972.

James Frederick Bazley, in his trial in 1986, Bazley named Fred Krahe as Don Mackay's killer.
Krahe was a former corrupt NSW Police detective who was often hired as a standover man for various major criminal figures in Sydney during the 1970s.
At the time of Mackay's murder, Krahe was working for Frank Nugan; the head of the Nugan Hand Bank Main Branch in Sydney whose bank was allegedly a front for drug money laundering with help of the US Central Intelligence Agency.
Krahe was also the one who spread the rumor that Mackay wasn't murdered but had ran off with a woman.
He has been named as a suspect in several murders, suspicious deaths and disappearances, these are:
Donald Fergusson- Detective Superintendent, Krahe's protégé and one-time partner and former head of NSW Police Main CIB Branch, found dead of a suspicious gunshot wound to the head in the bathroom of his office at the NSW Police Administration Building in Campbell Street, Sydney on the morning of the 15th February 1970, it was suspected that Fergusson was talking to detectives who were investigating Krahe and other corrupt detectives and their involvement in various criminal activities, leading to the theory that Krahe grabbed Fergusson's service revolver and killed Fergusson and then made it look that Fergusson committed suicide.
Alan Burton- Car thief and partner of Reg Varley; the leader of the Burton-Varley car theft gang, disappeared and presumed murdered on the 7th February 1972, Varley said that Krahe and his partner; Detective Sergeant Cyril Roy Edwards had gave Burton "a hiding" over an allegation that Burton had stole $20,000 from them.
Edwards was later shot dead by a unknown gunman at Tamarama Beach, Sydney in 1986, at the time, Edwards was under investigation for drug corruption, while Varley committed suicide in August 1987.
Shirley Brifman- Known as Marge, brothel madam and former prostitute, found dead of a suspicious barbiturate overdose in the bedroom of her flat at Clayfield, Queensland on the afternoon of the 4th March 1972, Brifman ran a brothel at Potts Point in Sydney and had ties to detectives within both the New South Wales Police Service and the Queensland Police Service and had named Krahe along with 33 other officers from New South Wales and Queensland in a number of corruption cases, it was theorized that Krahe had came up to Brisbane and forced drugs down a tube into her throat with the assistance of a officer from the Queensland Police Service.
In statements that Brifman had made with senior police detectives from New South Wales and Queensland from July to October 1971, she said that Krahe was involved in:
. Collecting protection money from brothels and abortion clinics based in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs.
. Exchanging criminals with a detective from the Queensland Police Service to allow the criminals to commit crimes in a state where they were not known to the local police.
. Organizing bank robberies.
. Setting up armed robber and escapist; DarcyDugan.
Brifman also said that Krahe had introduced her to Norman Allen; the NSW Police commissioner (from 1962 to 1972); who had allowed her to continue her work as madam and that she paid Krahe with weekly payments of $100 to protect her from rival standover men.
Juanita Nielsen- Publisher and anti-development campaigner, disappeared and presumed murdered on the 4th July 1975, Nielsen was protesting against Frank Theeman's plans to redeveloped around Nielsen's home on Victoria Street in King Cross, Krahe and his gang of "heavies" were working for Theeman's associate, nightclub owner and the "Boss of the Cross"; Abe Saffron and were occasionally hired by Theeman to intimidate the local residents and assault the protesters, it was theorized that Theeman asked Saffron to kill Nielsen and had Saffron to lured her to the Carousel; one of the clubs that Saffron owned where he had Krahe kill her.
Krahe's boss; Frank Nugan committed suicide behind the wheel of his Mercedes Benz at isolate dirt track outside Bowenfels near Lithgow, NSW on the night of the 27th January 1980, while Krahe himself died of natural causes on the 6th December 1981.
