]Garrett Adelbert Lesher was born in Poland, Chautauqua County, New York on October 16, 1844 or 1846. He was the son of Garrett G. and Huldah Lesher. He joined the US Army in the Civil War when he was living in Pine Island, MN. Garrett Lesher returned to Minnesota, and in 1868 he married 16-year-old Phoebe Ann Cates in Goodhue County, Minnesota. Phoebe was born May 16, 1852, Spring Valley, Janesville, Rock County, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Isaac and Catherine (Young) Cates.
