Julian L. Broersma

Vancouver - An avid basketball fan who worked at Stevenson Co-Ply for many years, Julian L. Broersma, 76, died of cancer Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at his home in Vancouver.

Mr. Broersma was born June 13, 1927, in Cawker City, Kan., and lived in Clark County for 45 years. He enjoyed dancing, gardening and walking with his friends at Westfield Shoppingtown Vancouver.

He also enjoyed driving, whether it was taking his fifth-wheel trailer on the road to Texas, Arizona and Canada, often in search of a hot spring to relax in, or picking up his co-workers early each morning in a 16-passenger van for the ride to work.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Dorothy, at home; four daughters, Linda Story of Goldendale, Charlene Crum of Washougal, Marsha Moore of Camas and Renee Grace of Kennewick; three stepdaughters, Jacqueline Tracy of Washington, D.C., Andrea Wright of New Denver, B.C., and Noreen Bloch of Tygh Valley, Ore.; two sons, Ronald of Washougal and Larry of Vancouver; two sisters, Julian's twin, Jeanette Eshius of Lynden and Marcella Verstraete of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two brothers, Chester of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Delmer of West Lafayette, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; four step- grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel. Following a brief graveside service at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery, friends and family are invited to the chapel's hospitality room for refreshments and then to an open house until 8 p.m at Jo's Roundup restaurant in Washougal.
