POMARIA - Clara L. Hentz, 90, of Pomaria, died Sunday, May 4, 2014, at White Oak Manor.
Born July 11, 1923, in Newberry, SC, she was a daughter of the late Annie Belle Chapman and Norman J. Long. She had retired as an employee of MepCo, formerly G.E., in Irmo. Mrs. Hentz was a member of Pomaria Lutheran Church where she served on various committees and Pomaria WELCA. She was also a member of The Eastern Star, Little Mountain Chapter #276 and the Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post #24.
She is survived by a daughter, Cathy H. Meetze of Pomaria; her son, David J. Hentz (Gayle) of Mooresville, NC; a brother, Frank Long (Faye) of Prosperity; grandchildren, Beverly Hollowell (John), Sally Hentz and Candace Coker (Todd); great-grandchildren, Rebeckah, Amanda, and Jeremy Hollowell, and Hannah and Katie Coker; stepgrandchildren, Lori Cooke (Andy) and Stephanie Ingram; 7 stepgreat-grandchildren; 2 stepgreat-great grandchildren, special nieces, Elaine Bailey and Lydia Merchant; great niece, Ingrid Trotter; great nephew, Phillip Trotter; and a very special friend, Steve Sinclair.
She was predeceased by her husband, Woodrow B. Hentz; brother, William E. "Bill" Long; and a son-in-law, Floyd Meetze.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Pomaria Lutheran Church by Rev. Derald Edwards and Rev. Arden Hallman. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, c/o Jennifer Rogers, PO Box 1741, Greenwood, SC 29648. Pallbearers will be Phillip Trotter, John Paul Whitaker, Mark Bailey, Charles Ringer, Joe Crooks, Keith Ringer, Jim Roy Kunkle and David Merchant.
