Rachel Catherine "Katie" Crowder Sandlin Boehm, 96, of Plainfield, passed away May 2, 2014, at Plainfield Health and Rehab. She was born February 15, 1918 in Fountain County, Indiana to the late Amos and Maude Witsman Crowder.

Katie was co-owner of The Beech Grove Cab Company and drove a cab for the company while married to her first husband, Ernie Sandlin. Later in life, she held the position of collection associate at Mutual Hospital Services from 1967 until her retirement in 1986 at the age of 68. She was a member of Plainfield Hope Presbyterian Church where she joyfully volunteered her services as well as volunteer at Plainfield Health and Rehab until her health became a factor.

Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Crane of New Paris, Ohio; Melinda (Rodrigo) Garcia of Avon, Indiana; stepson, John (Shirley) Vanniman of Acworth, Georgia; sister, Vera Brooks of Watervliet, Michigan; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Tawana Sandlin; her second husband of 31 years, Edward W. Boehm; son-in-law, Richard Crane; brothers, Ora, Chauncey, Eaustin, Keith, Amos Jr. and Earl Crowder and sisters, Roberta Nieman and Emma Hacker.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, Indiana. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Entombment in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association - 50 East 91st Street, Suite 100 Indianapolis, Indiana 46240.
