"James Polk Ashby, son of Lloyd and Huldah Ashby, was born November 9, 1844, near Fillmore, Andrew county, Mo., and died at his home two miles north of Mound City, August 6, 1928, aged 83 years, 8 months, and 27 days.
In 1869, he with his parents, came to Holt county where he has resided continuously since, except a short while spent in Iowa and Kansas.
He is survived by one sister, Ida Hull, Vliet, Kansas, who has been with him for the past nine months. He has also sixteen nieces and nephews.
A short funeral service was held at the home Tuesday afternoon, August 7th, conducted by Rev. C.H. Sauceman. Burial was in the Old Mound City cemetery."
