Richard Staab, 61, Topeka, died Friday Sept. 6, 1996 at a Topeka hospital. He was born Feb. 10, 1935 in Topeka, the son of Joseph W. and Anna Hefner Staab.

Mr. Staab worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a paymaster for 39 years before he retired in 1992. He also was an Army veteran. He was a lifelong Topeka resident. Mr. Staab was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church where he was an active volunteer, and the Santa Fe Old Timers Club.

He was married to Marge Fagan on July 20, 1963 at Topeka. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, Mark R. Staab, Topeka; two daughters, Angie L. Wild and Anne Staab, both of Topeka; and four sisters, Lilian Fitzpatrick, LaJunita, Colo., Lucila Isbee, Hays, Mary Agnes Sacco, Milford, and Rose Schumacher, Hays.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Tuesday at Christ the King Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at a later date at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Staab will lie in state from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a parish prayer service will be 7:30 p.m.
