Julia Mackey. She was raised on the Gray
farm on Lot 30, Con. 7 (now Medway Rd.)
in London township.
In 1918 she entered the Victoria Hospital
School of Nursing in London.
She graduated in 1921 as R.N. and was
immediately appointed as charge nurse of
the ear, eye, nose and throat operating room
under Dr. Septimus Thompson.
She remained in this position until her
marriage on June 29, 1927 at her parents' residence in London Township to Percival
"Percy" DeKay of Waterloo County near the
community of Hawkesville. She lived at the
DeKay farm residence there until Dec. 1930
when she moved with Percy and young son
Eldon and Percy's mother to a 100-acre farm at R.R.1, Hyde Park, at the south-half of Lot 31, Con. 4 in London Township.
Son, Bev, was born the next month,in January and George came along seven years later.
Edna lived for the next 62 1/2 years at
this location where she enjoyed her house-
hold duties (a great cook!). her gardening
and in earlier days, raising chickens and
gathering eggs for market. She died in
St.Joseph's Hospital, London after five
weeks there.
They had three sons, Eldon, Bev and George.
