Norman "Red" Parkhurst, age 74, of Griffith, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at St. Mary Medical Center. He was a Master Barber and Owner of Parkhurst Barber Shop on Park Ridge Road in Griffith. He belonged to the Barber's Union. Mr. Parkhurst was noted as the "Mayor of Ridge Road", as his place was more than just a place to get a haircut, but he offered up great conversation and helped many in the nearby community. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roseann Parkhurst in February 2002. Survivors include his son, David Parkhurst of Merrillville; two daughters, Deborah L. Parkhurst of Valparaiso and Denise Thorpe; three grand-children, Tom Barnett, Jr., Lindsey Barnett and Melissa Bujna; two great-grandchildren, Blake Barnett and Alexis Rose Bujna Ragsdale. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at Rendina Funeral Home, 5100 Cleveland Street, Merrillville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday from the chapel, with Mr. Phil Sallie and Rev. Darrell Moore officiating. Burial in Calumet Park Cemetery. Red's life will be missed for years to come as a Barber and Friend.
