Frank C. Marra Sr., 87, of Toms River, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Frank was born in Newark and raised in the Silver Lake section of Belleville before moving to Bloomfield in 1952. Frank proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army in the Medic Corps as an ambulance driver in the Philippines, and then as a Quartermaster in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, as part of the first division to be sent following the atomic bombs. He was a union plasterer and mason for 35 years, before semi-retiring and forming his own company, Ocean Stone and Stucco, after moving to Toms River in 1983.
Frank was predeceased by the love of his life, Ruby (nee Francese,) his wife of 58 years who died in 2006; and his parents, Joseph and Frances (nee Chirico) Marra. He is survived by his daughter, Marlene and her husband Michael Bober; son, Frank C. Jr. and his wife Janyce Marra; son, Gerard and his wife Robin Marra; and daughter, Karen Zimmerman, all of Toms River. He also is survived by 10 grandchildren, Michael and Elizabeth Bober, Mark Bober, Frank R. Marra, Maureen and Marc Brody, Stephanie and Erik Kitzmiller, Lauren and Joseph Maccaquano, Chelsea Marra, Nicholas Marra, Travis Marra, and Brooke Marra; as well as four great-grandchildren, Simone Bober, Elliott Brody, RubyRose Kitzmiller, and Dahlia Bober. He also is survived by his brother, Benedict Marra, as well as many nieces and nephews. Frank and his ever-present smile were dearly loved and will be missed by all.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Road, Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday, April 28 at St. Justin the Martyr Church, 975 Fischer Blvd., Toms River. Interment will be in Brig. General William C. Doyle NJ Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Frank's memory may be made to Van Dyke Hospice, Toms River.
