Corporal, Company I, 7th US Cavalry Regiment. He was killed, along with General George A. Custer and most of his unit, during the Battle of the Little Big Horn.

He enlisted on October 26, 1872, at age 21, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He gave his previous occupation as Carriage Maker. He had brown eyes, brown hair, a fair complexion, and was 5 feet 5 3/4 inches tall. His mother, Hannah, received a pension of $12 per month until her death on December 21, 1914. During the battle, his company was assigned to the Custer column, and was wiped out by the afternoon of the first day of the three day battle. Initially, the dead soldiers were buried where they fell, but a year later, the bodies were dug up and reburied in a mass grave at the top of Last Stand Hill, where they rest today.
