MRS.C.W.GREEN DIED TUESDAY
PASSED AWAY AT DAUGHTER'S HOME NEAR BERESFORD
Was 87 Years Old and Lived Here More Than Ten Years.—Survived by Five Children
Mrs. C. W. Green, a former resident of this city, passed away Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hattie Briggle, near Beresford, at the advanced age of 87 years, from infirmities incident to her years.
Funeral services will be held at the Congregational church in Beresford at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon with Rev. W. S. Harper in charge. Burial will be made in Pleasant Hill cemetery at Alcester beside her husband.
Carolyn Leona Gay was born in Meshoppen, Penn., Jan. 4, 1850, and died near Beresford, S. D., April 20, 1937. On Sept. 10, 1872, she was united in marriage with Charles Wesley Green at Meshoppen, who preceded her in death on June 25th of last year. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Green, Mrs. Howard Harris of Riverside, Calif.; Stanley Green of Alcester; Margaret, who passed away at the. age of 29 years; Mrs. Harold Harris of Selby, S. D.; Mrs. Hattie Briggle of Beresford, and Harry Green of Alcester. There are also 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family left Pennsylvania in 1882, coming first to Maquoketa, Iowa, and in 1887 to Sioux county, making their home for more than ten years on a farm near Rock Valley. In 1898 they moved onto a farm, near Alcester which they purchased and which is now occupied by their son Harry. In 1912 Mr. and Mrs. Green retired from the farm and spent the next fourteen winters in California, returning each spring to visit their children and on five different occasions returned . to their native state of Pennsylvania for summer visits with old friends. In 1925 they purchased a home in Hawarden and made their home here until Mr. Green's failing health impelled them to go to their children in January, 1936. They lived for a time with their on Stanley and then with their son Harry, near Alcester, and shortly before Mr. Green's death last June, went to the home of their daughter, Mrs. Briggle, where Mrs. Green also passed away. Mr. and Mrs. Green celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Hawarden Sept. 10, 1932.
Mrs. Green was a lifelong member of the Methodist church. She was highly esteemed as a neighbor and her splendid Christian character ever manifested itself toward her many friends who sincerely mourn her departure.
