MELLEN -- George J. Otto, 70, of Mellen, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland.
He was born March 12, 1928, in Mellen, the son of John and Margaret (Develski) Otto. His early life and schooling were in Mellen.
In 1949, he married Gloria Sukanen. She preceded him in death in 1955. On April 7, 1956, he was married to Elaine F. Watson at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Mellen. He was a life resident of the Mellen area. George served in the Navy in World War II. He was a semi-truck driver for 35 years with Teamsters Local 200. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Mellen, the VFW Post #2273 of Mellen, serving as its commander from 1987 to 1989. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus #6786 of Mellen. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Elaine, Mellen; two sons, George (Cheri) Otto Jr., Milwaukee, and Dennis (Mary) Otto, Highbridge; six daughters, Bonnie (James) Lynch, Milwaukee; Deborah Donald, Mellen; Denise (James) Popovich, Mellen; Diane (Tom) Scribner, Mellen; Doreen (Robert) Warren, Marengo, and Deanna (Edward) Mundle, Mellen; 20 grandchildren, J.J., Jeff, John, Amber, Brandon, Nikki, Debbie, Joe, Joseph, Amanda, Tasha, Joshua, Dustin, Dennis Jr., Derrick, Cory, Austin, Alexandria, Tanner and Dalton; one great-grandson, Kavan Lynch. Also, two special dogs, Mitiz and Puf. Also surviving are four brothers, John (Marilyn) Otto, Glidden; Dan (Dorothy) Otto, Mellen; Sylvester Otto, Mellen, and Alvin (Sandy) Otto, Ashland; one sister, Margaret (Bill) Dahl, Ashland; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Pamela Jean, and a sister, Catherine.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Mellen, with Father Gerald Hagen, celebrant.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Cathcolic Church, Mellen, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Spring burial with military honors will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Highbridge.
