Phyllis L. Anderson, 77, Barron, Wis., died Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, at Barron.

She was born Sept. 2, 1928, at Rice Lake, the daughter of Ervin and Florence Gerland. She was the oldest of six children.

She married Carsten Anderson of Barron on July 10, 1949, at Rice Lake.

Phyllis was a member of First Lutheran Church, Barron, where she sang in the choir, directed a children's choir and served on numerous committees, including the committee for the proposal and purchase of the present pipe organ in the church sanctuary.

She was a Girl Scout Leader, member and past president of the Barron Federated Music Club and an original member of the Barron Area Community Center Board of Directors.

Phyllis' great passion was the Barron Area School District. She was a member of the Board of Education for 26 years and served as secretary. She lived by the belief that all children should have an equal chance of receiving a high quality, well-rounded education.

She retired three years after all buildings in the school district were remodeled and computer drops installed.

Phyllis enjoyed summer days with her family at Silver Lake, knitting and cross-stitch, playing piano, bird watching, downhill skiing and rose gardening.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Craig (Ruth) of Barron; daughters, Kari (Randal) VanNatta of Wausau and Lorri (Dave) Hedlund of St. Michael, Minn.; seven grandchildren; sisters, Lorraine Barta of Rice Lake, Caroly (Dean) Dawson of Barron and Linda (Robert) Kolzow of Cumberland; and a brother, Donald (Betsy) Gerland of Rice Lake.

Her parents and an infant sister, Shirley, preceded her in death.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, from First Lutheran Church, Rev. Bruce Beyer officiating, with burial at Wayside Cemetery, Barron.

Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Wednesday from Rausch-Rockman Funeral Chapel, Barron.

Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church, Barron.
