William Joseph "Joe" Blank, 83, of Princeville passed away at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at his residence.
Joe was born April 3, 1931, near Monica, Ill., the son of Arthur and Tillie McIntyre Blank. He married Beverly Nuss on Nov. 14, 1951, at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif. She survives.
Also surviving are their nine children, Colleen (Allen) Belcher of Jacksonville, Denise (Andrew) Krysciak of Chicago, Joyce Blank of Peoria, Rene Blank of Springfield, Jan Blank of Princeville, Eric (Terrie) Blank of Elmhurst, Amy (Kevin) Wise of Princeville, Andrew (Ann) Blank of Green Bay, Wis., and Jon (Lyndsay) of Princeville; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Edward, Wilbur and Paul; and one sister, Alice Forney.
Joe graduated from Princeville High School in 1949 and entered the Air Force in 1951. After 30 years in the Air National Guard, Joe retired in 1986 as a senior master sergeant.
Upon his retirement, he drove the school bus for Princeville School District and worked on Dave Gibbs Farms.
Joe was a lifetime member of the Princeville Heritage Museum and served several terms on the Princeville Township Board.
For over 50 years, Joe was the voice behind Princeville football, as the games' announcer. He took great pride in Princeville athletics and was also a timekeeper for the high school basketball games for 50 years. In 1992, he was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Joe's greatest enjoyment in life was spending over 20 summers at his second home on Sand Lake in Cumberland, Wis., riding his ATV and fishing with his family.
Joe was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Princeville, where a funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 21, 2014. Father Don Henderson will officiate. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 20, 2014, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Haskell-Hott Funeral Homes in Princeville. A prayer service will be held following the visitation on Sunday. An additional visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Princeville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Princeville School District athletic department or Akron-Princeville Ambulance Service.
