Enlisted on 6/11/1861 at King George Court House for 12 months' service, he was mustered into "B" Co. VA 47th Infantry as a Private.
Reenlisted for 3 years' (or the war) service and appointed 1st Corpl 5/1/1862.
Listed as 3rd Sergeant on 1/24 & 2/19/1863 clothing receipt rolls.
Listed as 2nd Sergeant on 4/3/ & 5/13/1863 clothing receipt rolls.
POW 7/14/1863 Falling Waters, MD.; confined 7/23 - 8/8/1863 in Old Capitol Prison, Wash., D.C.; confined Point Lookout, MD. 8/9/1863 - 3/3/1864, when exchanged.
Listed as 2nd Sergeant on 6/30 - 12/31/1864 final Roll.
Paroled 5/1/1865 King George Court House, VA.

On 5/3/1900, age 67, living in Passapatanzy, King George County, he applied for a full Confederate Disability Pension due to "kidney & bladder trouble".

The 47th Infantry Regiment was formed in June, 1861, with men recruited in Caroline, Middlesex, Essex, and Stafford counties. During February, 1865, the 47th and 55th Regiments were consolidated.
