TAUNTON – Richard J. Ducharme, a retired Shaw's store manager, 73 years old, died on Thursday, October 11, 2007, in Morton Hospital in Taunton, following a long illness. Formerly of East Taunton, Mr. Ducharme was born in Pawtucket, RI, the son of the late Raoul and Antoinette (Hudon) Ducharme. He was the husband of the late Janette B. (Pietras) Ducharme.

Mr. Ducharme was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean War era, having received the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations and Korean Service Medals. He worked for the Walk-Over Show Factory in Middleboro while attending evening classes to receive his GED and then continued to receive a college degree for which he was very proud. He then worked for over thirty years for the BPM grocery chain, which later became Shaw's. He was the manager of Shaw's supermarket stores in Brockton, Taunton and Raynham. He retired in 1989.

Mr. Ducharme was a communicant of Holy Family Church in East Taunton, where he served as the organist for many years. He enjoyed traveling with his late wife Janette, to Bermuda, Aruba, Tahiti, Cape Cod, New Hampshire, and after his retirement they traveled to Rome where they met the Pope. He loved making puzzles, to dance the Polka, and lived out the remaining years of his life touching the lives of many at the Arbors and Cohannet Village where he resided. He will be forever remembered as a generous man who was loved by all that knew him.

He is survived by his daughter, Sheila A. Ducharme of Taunton; and his son, Stephen R. Ducharme and his wife Karen (Sullivan) Ducharme of East Taunton. He was the grandfather of Tiffany Santos, Nolan Santos, Sean Ducharme, Jenna Decharme, Andrew Ducharme and Michaelah Ducharme. He was the brother of Roland Ducharme of Raynham, Norman Ducharme of Lakeville, Yvette Conaty of Taunton, Paul Ducharme of East Taunton and Theresa Gomes of East Taunton. He was also the brother of the late Marion Davis, Raymond and Gerard Ducharme. He was the uncle of several nieces and nephews.
