Mrs. Ruth E. Wood, age 90, of the Wyalusing Personal Care Home, where she had been a resident for the last six years, formerly of Silvara, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Memorial Hospital, in Towanda, Pa. She was born on May 6, 1915, in West Auburn Pa., the daughter of the late William and Etta (Crawford) Benscoter. Mrs. Wood was the wife of the late Ora E. Wood, who passed away on Sept. 11, 1972. For many years, Mrs. Wood attended the Beaver Meadows United Methodist Church, the Silvara United Methodist Church and the Transue Community Church. In her spare time she enjoyed playing her violin and accordion at many of the churches she attended. She was a long-time member of the Silvara Ladies Aide Society. She also loved to fish at many area ponds around Silvara and West Auburn, and she also enjoyed her fishing trips to Canada. When she was younger, she loved hunting and trapping. Surviving are her two sons, Gary Wood and his friend, Josephine Newhart of Montrose, Pa., and Norm and his wife, Sharon Wood, of Laceyville, Pa. She is also survived by two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31, at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Laceyville, Pa., with the Rev. William Nelson of the Beaver Meadows United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Beaver Meadows Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 30, at the funeral home.
