Verna R. Catron, 96, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 10:15 A.M. on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Residential Living Center in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Verna was born on September 12, 1917 in Sims, Illinois the daughter of the late Reed and Mary Melinda (Jones) Dickey. She married Vernon E. Catron on April 2, 1938 and he preceded her in death on March 4, 2009.
Surviving family members include her daughter: Sharon Prosise and husband Jim of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 2 brothers: Dale Dickey of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Logan Dickey and wife Shirley of Pekin, Illinois; sister: Helen Ellis of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 2 grandchildren: Sonia Miley and husband Martin of Dix, Illinois and Terry Prosise and wife Christy of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 5 great grandchildren: Calvin Miley, Tess Miley and Lauren Miley of Dix, Illinois and Garrett Prosise and Macey Prosise of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Her parents, husband, two infant brothers, two infant sisters, three brothers: Donald, Delmar, and Leland Dickey and one sister: ILene Catron preceded her in death.
Verna was a member of Campground Baptist Church and everyone looked forward to the pies she would make and bring in for church pot luck dinners. She was an excellent seamstress and was very proud she was able to make her daughter's wedding dress and help make her granddaughter's wedding gown. She was a member of the Home Extension for 25 years and was a 4-H Leader. She was greatly appreciative of the loving care she received while she resided at Residential Living Center in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
