Hemet, CA: Craig H. Stolze, age 93, formerly of West Irondequoit, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2013 in Hemet, CA. Predeceased by beloved wife of 54 years, Charlotte; son, Craig Leigh Stolze.

A veteran of World War II, Craig proudly served his country as staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945, stationed in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. A testament to the merits of the GI Bill, he graduated from the University of South Dakota, magna cum laude, in 1949. He was also a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society.

Illustrious sports columnist and feature writer for the Times Union and Democrat and Chronicle, Craig's journalism career in Rochester spanned 14 years (1969 - 1983) and was highlighted by award-winning coverage of various sporting events, to include the Buffalo Bills, numerous World Series, Super Bowls, and Indianapolis 500's. In his own words, Craig lived the greatest life - one in which he lived his dream in sports and in writing. Retired from Gannett in 1983, Craig and family relocated to southern California.
