An obituary for Frank V. Laurent states that he had died on Wednesday [6 Oct 1976] at St. John's hospital in Springfield. Funeral services were at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home. Burial was in Ash Grove Cemetery. Mr. Laurent was born March 17, 1906 in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Jules and Sophia Shinski Laurent. He was Chief Pharmacist Mate in the Navy, retiring after 20 years. He was a member of the Strasburg Lions Club, Strasburg American Legion, Shelby County Rescue Squad, was a paramedic, emergency medical technician and Red Cross first aid instructor. Surviving were brother, Julius Laurent, Barlow, KY and sister, Louise Rieker of St. Charles,

I've discover his mother's maiden is Wyszyuski, not Shinsky.. I've also discovered that the ships he was assigned to were Fuel & Cargo ships. They did the navy proud during WW II. Very blessed that they weren't sunk, & he survived. My husband served 24 yrs. So we have connected to this veteran in a real way. He took his navy training & helped with emergency services in shellby county. His commitment was just like my husband. They liked their job so they stuck it out & was able to have a 20 yr. navy career.
