Notes for David Shink Huggins
The note on page 16 of Lulu Belle James Huggins' "Scribbler" lists "Shink Dee died 1894."   The 1880 census of the Moses and Nancy Mitchell household indicates that Elizabeth Huggins and her three sons are living with Moses and Nancy Mitchell.  The youngest child of Elizabeth Huggins is "David S."  Put the Scribbler's "Shink Dee" and the census' "David S" together and I conclude his name was "David Shink."

"...As for the myster as to who David S. Huggins was my guess would certainly be the younger brother of Daddy. She (Mother) wrote Shink Dee Huggins who died 1894, was Daddy's younger brother. I have heard it said he was 18 yrs old at his death 1894 -18 = 1876. He might have been born in 1877 according to whenever his birthday was. Daddy was born in 1874, and you know, George, how easy it is for people to put the middle name first, especially if a person is called by the middle name. Since most other things match, my guess is the boys name was David Shink Huggins...."

The Henrietta (Texas) Independent newspaper of November 16, 1894, wrote that D. Huggins, 18 or 20 years old, died the Sunday before. This would be November 11. (At this time, many young cowboys served on the local ranches of the area.) The article did not indicate where he was buried, but there is Hope Cemetery in Henrietta. Unfortunately, official records do not exist for 1894.
