Mrs. Ophelia Hiscoe was Close Friend of Poet Whittier
Mrs. Ophelia M. Hiscoe, 71, widow of Hibbard E. Hiscoe, and close friend of the poet, John Greenleaf Whittier, died at her home, 1749 Massachusetts av., Cambridge, yesterday.
She was born in Montgomery Centre, Vt. and moved to Amesbury some years later, where she met and married Mr. Hiscoe.
They lived in Brockton before coming to cambridge, where Mrs. Hiscoe had been active in Red Cross, St. James Episcopal Church of North Cambridge, Signet Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was a life member to the Women's Association of the Massachusetts Psychopathic Hospital.
Mrs. Hiscoe is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Henry J. Lupien of Brockton, and two sons, Lawrence E. of Minneapolis, Minn. and Dr. Kenneth Brooks Hiscoe of Cambridge.
A prayer service will be held at the Long Memorial Chapel, North Cambridge, at 2 p. m. today. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Brockton, Sunday, at 2:15
