Funeral services for Mrs. Berger Johnson, 73, of Maddock were held at 2:00 p. m. on Saturday, December 29th in the North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock. Pastor Delbert Ring officiated at the funeral services. Interment was in the North Viking Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson had been ill and hospitalized for sometime. She passed away on Wednesday evening, 26 Dec 1962. Pallbearers for the service were: Leslie Haugen, Selmer Arnston, Anton Green, Nels Knatterud, Joe Bratvold and Edwin Simonson. Miss Gilma Hovland was organist and soloist was Mr. Bill Raaen. The Wheeler Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements. Mrs. Berger Johnson (nee Anna I. Bjorge) was born on 17 Sep 1889 in Broten, MN, the daughter of Knute and Kirsten Bjorge. She was baptized in 1889 and was confirmed in the South Lake Johanna Lutheran Church near Brooten. She attended public schools near Brooten, where she grew to womanhood. She came to North Dakota in 1913 to the South Viking community. Berger Johnson and Anna Bjorge were united in marriage on 6 Sep 1915. To this union were born three children: Earl Johnson of Maddock, Bernice Mrs. Alvin Toso of Esmond and Miss Florence Johnson of Minneapolis, MN. Also surviving are brothers Carl Bjorge and George Bjorge of Brooten, MN; sisters Ida Mrs. Leonard Danielson, Regina Bjorge and Agnes Bjorge and Ella Mrs. V. J. Mashek all of Minneapolis, MN and Clara Mrs. Alvin Gomer of Albert Lea, MN and seven grand children and two great-grandchildren. Preceding Mrs. Johnson in death were her parents and two brothers, Oscar and Julius Bjorge.
