Daughter of former Mayor of Houston, John T. Browne, who served two terms in office from 1892 to 1896 and later continued his political career in the Texas Legislature, and wife Mary Jane Bergin. She was born as a twin to her sister, Johanna, as the youngest children of her parents.

She married Albert Henly Rickert in Houston on January 25, 1921.
