Mabel B. Turnbaugh
June 25, 1924 – Feb. 21, 2014

Mabel B. Turnbaugh, 89, Elmcroft of Altoona Senior Living Community, Duncansville, formerly of Tyrone, passed away Friday.

She was born in Warriors Mark, daughter of George and Mary (Patterson) Bickel. She married Joseph D. Turnbaugh on July 3, 1945, in Richlands, N.C., and he passed away in October 1996. She then married Emmet V. Hartzer on Nov. 16, 1999, and he passed away in October 2008.

Surviving are two sons: Terry J. Turnbaugh of Carlisle and Larry L. Turnbaugh and his wife, Robin, of Chesterfield, N.H.; three grandsons: Brandon and his wife, Bonnie, Derek and his wife, Jody, and Seth Turnbaugh; a granddaughter, Emma Hillard and her husband, Devon; two great-grandsons, Uriah and Gideon; four great-granddaughters: Sophia, Cassidy, Eliana, and Sincerity; and two stepdaughters: Sandra Crissman and her husband, Bob, of Hollidaysburg and Patricia Hartzer of Brooksville, Fla.

She was preceded in death by five brothers: William and Robert, both of Tyrone, Hays of Bald Eagle, Frank of McVeytown and Merle of Charlottesville, Va.; and two sisters: Marilyn Davidson of Tyrone and Lois Dickey of Crestview, Fla.

Mabel was a 1942 graduate of Tyrone High School. She graduated from the Altoona Beauty School and was a beautician for a number of years. Mabel's main vocation was as a homemaker. She was a member and Sunday school teacher who served in many capacities at First English Lutheran Church in Tyrone. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and was an avid sports fan.

A viewing for family members and close friends will be held from 10 a.m. until the noon funeral service Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Derman Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone, with Pastor Sharon Erb officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to First English Lutheran Church, 17 W. 13th St., Tyrone, PA 16686.
