HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. - A Ford Expedition burst into flames when it was hit head-on by a dump truck on U.S. Highway 301 in Thonotosassa Thursday morning.
The driver of the Expedition, 20-year-old Joshua Gibson of Dade City, was killed. The truck driver was nothospitalized.
The crash occurred around 6:15 a.m.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the dump truck was heading north on 301. The SUV was traveling south when, for an unknown reason, it veered into the path of the dump truck and crashed.
The SUV then burst into flames. Gibson died at the scene.
U.S. 301 from Stacy to McIntosh was shut down.
Orlando Marquez of Tampa, the58-year-old driver of the dump truck, received minor injuries
