DRY FORK - Mamie Haskins Scarce, 89, of 2217 Whitmell School Road, died Thursday, May 10, 2007 at Piney Forest Health Care Center. She had been in declining health for two years and a resident of Piney Forest Health Care for two years. Born June 22, 1917, in Callands, she was the daughter of the late James Fletcher Haskins and the late Maggie Giles Haskins. She lived her life in Danville as well as Whitmell, was a homemaker, and was a member of Whitmell Christian Church. She was the last surviving member of her generation. She married Harry Calvin Scarce on Nov. 1, 1948. In addition to her husband, of the residence, she is survived by two sons, Harry Stephen Scarce and Bobby Wayne Scarce, both of Dry Fork; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by five sisters, Bernice H. Mills, Callie H. Brumfield, Frances H. Davis, Bunea H. Buckner, and Daffy H. Amos; four brothers, Roy Haskins, Giles Haskins, Doug Haskins, and Russell Haskins; and by one son, Donald Calvin Scarce. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 12 at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Jack Oakes and the Rev. Tim Oakes officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel; at other times they will be at the residence, 2217 Whitmell School Rd. The family suggests that memorial donations may be made to Whitmell Christian Church, 2628 Whitmell School Road, Dry Fork, VA 24549; or to the Tunstall Fire and Rescue, P.O.
