In civilian life Chester Stock was a landscaper in North Hollywood, CA. He liked to grow things having grown up on the family farm in Ontario, CA. After the US entered WWII, Chester Stock joined the Army Air Corps in early 1942. Sgt. Stock was in the 453rd Bombardment Group, 732nd Bomb Squadron. He and ten other crew members were on a B-24 training flight from Pocatello Army Airfield on August 14, 1943 when the pilot flew into a canyon. He misjudged the lift needed to get over a ridge and tried to turn around to try again. One of the wingtips nicked the canyon wall and the plane crashed, killing all aboard. This was 11 miles south of Dubois, Wyoming.
