Bartholomew and Catherine Arnett had 11 children. They were of German descent and could speak very little English. The History of Darke County, 1900 states on page 441 that Bartholomew came to the Colonies in 1776 as a Hessian Soldier brought by the British to fight against the Americans. He deserted and joined the Colonists to fight against the English for the rest of the Revolutionary War.
Bartholomew took claim, had a grant, to land in Section 35 in the year 1813. On the same map of Bartholomew's land it shows the name of John Pippenger who owned land adjoining. (This was the east end of Brookville) Bartholomew's son, John Married John Pippenger's daughter, Sarah "Sally" Pippenger.
Bartholomew's children reportedly born in Pennsylvania. The records show Bartholomew bought a 300 acre farm in Huntingdon Co., Pa., in 1802 and sold it in 1806 and then is when it is believed he came to Montgomery Co., Ohio.

Bartholomew Arnett is believed to be the 1st burial in the Arnett Cemetery, 1/2 mile South of Potsdam.
