Clementine C. Baumgartner was born Nov. 7, 1907 at her parents' homestead in Kirkelie Township of Ward County, near Foxholm, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Frank Baumgartner (b.1864), of Hungary and Theresia (Gruber) Baumgartner (b.1879), also of Hungary.

Her father died when she was only a year old, and as a young child, she went with her Gruber grandparents to live in Polk County, OR for several years. For the most part, she was raised in the Foxholm, ND area and in addition to being actively helpful on the farm she was also involved in the Ward Co. Boys and Girls Guernsey Calf Club.

In 1925, she went to Bismarck, ND with her sister, MaryAnn, to continue their education, graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1926.

At the age of 20, she met and married Virgil L. Plunkett, and in 1929 their first child, Billy, was born in Bismarck.

In 1930, Clem joined her mother, brothers and Gruber relatives and moved to St. Walburg, SK, Canada, where their second child, Peggy, would be born in December of that year. Clem and her kids stayed at St. Walburg helping with the farm, and where she also served as a midwife for women in that area. In 1936 Clem and her children returned to Bismarck and in 1937, another daughter, Carolita, was born to Virgil and Clem. Soon after that, Clem and Virgil separated, and Clem went to work at a grocery store.

About 1940, Clem went to work at the state Capitol at the office for the Works Progress Administration (WPA), and in 1945, she went to work as a lab technician with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture - Brucellosis Laboratory where she stayed for 32 years until her mandatory retirement in 1977.

Through the years, she was a great source of support for her children and grandchildren. Bill and Carolita would marry and move out of the Bismarck area, but Peggy and her husband Willie provided six grandchildren for Clem to help nurture. In addition to being a wonderful cook and famously phenomenal Holiday-Treat baker, she was an excellent seamstress and did beautiful needlework, both crocheting and embroidery - leaving treasured heirloom mementos for her descendants.

She was a member of the V.F.W., and a very active participant on Bingo nights. Through all those years, Clem never had a driver's license or drove a car; she walked where she wanted to go.

Clem died at the age of 83 at home in Bismarck on June 20, 1991 leaving behind a family that was so thankful for the years they had with her.
