She was born June 30, 1921 in Millers Mills, only child of William D. Gorsline, Jr. and Mamie Miller. She was a student in the Millers Mills one-room school, graduated from West Winfield High School in 1938 and attended the Utica School of Commerce. She worked briefly until her marriage to Edwin T. Loomis August 2, 1941 at St. Augustine's Church in Ilion. In 1955, Marie and Ed moved to Poughkeepsie where Marie was later employed by the Poughkeepsie City Schools.
