St. George, UT - Our beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend, Jon Payton Alexander, passed away on January 27, 2014 after a valiant and strong battle with colon cancer.
Jon was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 15, 1966 and was adopted by Doris and LaRay Alexander. He was raised in Blanding, Utah. Jon always stated his parents and family were the family he was supposed to have and loved them all dearly. While in high school, Jon played football, wrestled and played the trumpet. After high school, he served an LDS mission to Hawaii. Jon loved the people he served and the people loved him in return. He loved Hawaii.
Jon married his eternal companion, Nicholle Auston on April 25, 1998 and adopted a son, Anthony. They were sealed as an eternal family on April 25, 1998. Jon wanted nothing more in his life than to be a husband and a father; the role he excelled at in his life. Nine and a half years later, Nicholle and Jon were blessed to have a sweet boy, Andrew, come into their family. Both Andrew and Anthony completed Jon. He was so proud to have kids.
Jon served in many callings; ward mission leader, Sunday school secretary and the elders quorum presidency. Jon was a very valiant servant to our Heavenly Father. He never wavered with his diligence. The Savior was very important to him. Jon wanted an eternal family and worked very hard at making one and keeping one. Jon later became a police officer, a job that he loved. He worked for Dixie State University and they became his second family. He loved his co-workers and the students he served.
Jon is survived by his wife, Nicholle, and their two sons: Anthony and Andrew Alexander of St. George; his siblings: David Alexander, Karen Slaven, Pamela Shurig, and Mary North; his mother, Doris Alexander. He was preceded in death by his father, Laray Alexander.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Riverbend LDS Ward Chapel, 2681 East 350 North, St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. both at the Chapel. Interment will be in the Tonaquint Cemetery.
