Ex-Supervisor William D. Arms, one of the most successful business men of Adams, died at that village Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Arms was born in the town of Adams in 1829 and had all his life been a resident of that village with the exception of eight years, 1866 to 1874, spent in the city of New York, and excepting the years named had been a dry goods merchant in that village during all his business life. He was the son of Luman Arms, of Adams Center, where for many years he conducted a mercantile business in company with O.R. Davis. For many years Mr. Arms was associated with James Hungerford, under the firm name of Arms & Hungerford in the dry goods business in that village. A few years ago Hungerford retired from the firm and Mr. Arms continued the business as its proprietor. From his youth up, Mr. Arms was intimately and progressively connected with the town and village of Adams and was a most valued citizen. In 1881 he was elected the first Supervisor from the town of Adams and was the town representative upon that board up to 1896 when he was succeeded. When his last term on the board expired he had served continously for 15 years. He is survived by his widow and one daghter. Miss Carrie Arms. He leaves a brother, who resides in Chicago, a half-brother, Foster Arms of Chicago and a half sister who resides in Belleville.
