Obituary from The Evening Star 20 Dec 1918 Page 7:

"QUIGLEY. Departed this life on Tuesday, December 17, 1918, at 8 p.m.. Catherine, the beloved wife of the late Hugh Quigley (nee Gallagher). Funeral will take place from her late residence, 923 6th street southwest, Saturday morning at 9 o'clock. Solemn requiem mass St. Dominic's Church. Relatives and friends are invited to attend."

Although Catherine was Irish, her family immigrated to America through England. She was 6 years old when she arrived in the United States in 1856. She married Hugh Quigley on May 25th, 1867 in Washington, D.C. She gave birth to 12 children, but only 10 children survived. She was a very kind, religious woman. The family attended St. Dominic's Catholic Church in SW Washington, D.C. a few blocks from where they lived on 6th street. At the time, St. Dominic's had a priory, convent and a school which the children attended. Only the historic church remains, saved by an act of Congress when much of the southwest quadrant of DC was demolished and rebuilt in the 1950's. The sacramental records of the family are maintained at the church.

Note that she died the same day as her beloved husband, but 12 years later.

Date of Interment: 21 Dec 1918
