Betty Jean (Burkett) Rybicki, of Eastlake, died early Sunday morning, January 19, 2014, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. She was 76.
She was born September 9, 1937, in Newberry, and was the daughter of the late Raymond and Florence (Hill) Burkett. She received her GED from Manistee High School in 1982. As a young lady, she was employed for several years at the Glen of Michigan, and later, she was employed at some of the various fruit packing companies throughout the Manistee area. Most recently, Betty was employed at the Manistee Heights Care Center until her retirement. She was a very caring and helpful person to many and was very devoted to her church and friends. She was always willing to help someone in need, or share her time, talents and treasures. Betty enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. She was a lifelong member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Eastlake.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Duane and Lois Rybicki of Cadillac, and James and Connie Rybicki of Manistee; three grandchildren: Matthew, Brian and Andy Rybicki; two great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Brenden Rybicki; her special niece, Ann Marie Burkett of Thompsonville; and her sister in-law, Maryjane Cybert of Manistee. Several great nieces and nephews also survive her.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers: Raymond Edward Burkett Jr, William Leroy Burkett and Chester Delano Burkett.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Eastlake, with Pastor Alvin W. Knutson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee.
The family will receive friends at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee on Friday, January 24, 2014, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements.
