Served about the USS Mullany in WW II. Guarding the Okinawa invasion force on 6 April 1945, the Mullany engaged a Japanese kamikaze plane at 17:45. The plane crashed into the deckhouse and the ship's depth charges exploded. See Wikipedia for a full description but they saved the their ship, but 21 of her crew were killed, nine missing, and 36 wounded.
