YORKTOWN - Farring 'Jack' C. Rew, 79, passed away peacefully, Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, with his wife by his side. He fought a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Parksley on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, he had been a Yorktown resident for 19 years. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. Jack retired from Southwestern Insurance Company and was a member of Crooks Memorial United Methodist Church. His church family was a very important part of his life, along with his enjoyment of fishing, working on his computer and watching the Redskins and Virginia Tech football. He was preceded in death by his son, Tim Rew; mother, Pansie Rew; and father, S. Farring Rew. Left to cherish his life are his loving wife of 58 years, Betty Rew; daughter, Connie Jarvis, and husband, John, of Yorktown, and their children, John III, Michelle Kidroske and husband, David, and Dawn Harms and husband, Mark; son, Barry Rew and Maria of Hampton and their children, Bree Deel and husband, Sam, Christopher Rew, Nathasha, Thomas and Duke Boyd; daughter, Lisa Cook, and husband, Jeffrey, of Carrollton, and their children, Matthew Cook and wife, Sharon, Shannon Cook and Timmy Cook; stepmother, Rubye Rew, and her son, Alva James Winbrow, both of the Eastern Shore. He is also survived by cousins, children of the late Beatrice Wise, and 11 great-grandchildren. He will be missed by his faithful friend, Kati, and the many walks they shared. The family would like to thank the members of Crooks Memorial United Methodist Church for their love and support. They would also like to thank the Yorktown Fire Station #1. The family will not forget the great hospice care group. Betty would like to thank Dr. Joseph Wilson and Dr. Paul Evans III for their hope and compassionate care. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Crooks Memorial United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Paul Phillips. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
